AMASE Erasmus Mundus 2027 — Funded Materials Master's
Fully funded Master scholarship in Germany for All nationalities students 2027
Erasmus Mundus materials engineering across six European universities: tuition, insurance and €1,400 a month. Luleå entrants must apply by 15 January 2027.
Eligibility
- Bachelor's of at least three years in materials science, engineering, physics or chemistry
- Language of the entrance university: English B2 at Luleå, Leoben and Padua; German B1 at Saarland; French B2 at Lorraine; Spanish B2 at Catalunya
- Two academic reference letters in English
- Final-year students may apply with a registrar's letter
- Open to all nationalities
AMASE is the Erasmus Mundus joint master in advanced materials science and engineering, and its 2027-2028 round opened in October 2026. The scholarship deadline depends on which university you enter through: 15 January 2027 for Luleå, and 15 February 2027 for the other five entrance universities.
What it covers
A full Erasmus Mundus scholarship covers tuition for four semesters, European health insurance and a monthly allowance of €1,400 for up to 24 months, which the consortium describes as covering travel, installation and subsistence rather than reimbursing receipts. A partial award waives tuition for the same four semesters and keeps the insurance, without the monthly allowance.
The programme is coordinated by the European School of Materials at Saarland University in Germany, with entrance routes at Luleå University of Technology in Sweden, Montanuniversität Leoben in Austria, the University of Padua in Italy, Université de Lorraine in France and Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya in Spain. You study at two of them and finish with a double degree.
Who can apply
The base requirement is a bachelor's degree of at least three years in materials science or engineering, physics, chemistry, mechanical engineering or a closely related field. Final-year students may apply with a registrar's letter confirming enrolment and the expected graduation date.
Nationality is not a barrier. The consortium distinguishes EU and third-country applicants for fee levels and for the deadline, not for academic eligibility.
Eligibility self-check
• Is your bachelor's at least three years long, and does the transcript show materials, physics, chemistry or engineering content?
• Can you prove the teaching language of the entrance university you chose — English B2 at Luleå, Leoben and Padua, German B1 at Saarland, French B2 at Lorraine, Spanish B2 at Catalunya?
• Do you have two academic reference letters in English, on letterhead, ready to upload?
• Have you checked that you have not previously held an Erasmus Mundus joint master scholarship?
• Are you free to move between two countries, with the language study the second year requires?
• If you are in your final undergraduate year, can your registrar issue the enrolment letter before the deadline?
Deadline
15 January 2027 applies to applicants who choose Luleå University of Technology as their entrance university. 15 February 2027 applies to Saarland, Padua, Leoben, Lorraine and Catalunya. Self-financing applicants from third countries have until 31 March 2027, and EU self-financers until 31 May 2027 for most entrances.
The distinction is easy to miss, and it is not cosmetic: choosing Luleå buys you a month less preparation. If you are still assembling a language certificate, that month decides which entrance you can realistically name first.
How to apply
1. Choose an entrance university and a second university, and note that the second choice cannot be the same institution.
2. Open the AMASE online application tool and create an account for the 2027-2028 intake.
3. Upload a one-page English CV, a motivation letter, your passport, degree records and transcripts, language certificates and two English recommendation letters.
4. Submit before the deadline attached to your entrance university, then watch for the consortium's selection email.
Application materials checklist
• Bachelor's diploma and full transcript, translated if the original is not in English, French, German, Italian or Spanish.
• A one-page CV in English, kept to one page.
• Motivation letter — one to two pages, specific to the materials track you want.
• Two academic references in English.
• Language certificate for your chosen entrance university's teaching language.
• Passport scan valid beyond the programme start.
Common mistakes to avoid
• Applying to Saarland with only English. The entrance language there is German at B1, and a strong file does not substitute.
• Selecting two entrance universities in the same country. The mobility rule expects two institutions, and the second year is meant to be abroad.
• Sending a three-page CV. The instruction is one page, and the panel reads hundreds.
• Ignoring the deadline split and assuming 15 February applies to every route.
• Writing a motivation letter about materials science in general rather than about the specific specialisation at the second university.
Tips to win
Pick your entrance university by teaching language before you pick it by ranking. A B2 certificate you already hold beats a better-ranked campus you cannot document in time.
Name a materials problem, not a materials category. Applicants who write about a failure mode they want to understand — corrosion in a specific environment, a composite delamination they saw — read differently from applicants who list nanomaterials, biomaterials and surfaces in a row.
Use the second-university choice to show a plan. The programme is explicitly built so that year one is broad and year three of study is specialised; explaining why that specialisation belongs at that campus is the cheapest way to look prepared.
If your transcript uses a credit system other than ECTS, add the diploma supplement or a conversion note. The consortium reads credits, and an unexplained four-year degree can be mistaken for a three-year one.
