EACH — Excellence in Analytical Chemistry — is an Erasmus Mundus joint master's led by the University of Tartu, with the scholarship round for 2027 open from 5 November 2026 to 5 January 2027.

EACH — Excellence in Analytical Chemistry — is an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master coordinated by the University of Tartu in Estonia, one of Northern Europe's oldest and most respected research universities. Analytical chemistry is the discipline behind food safety testing, pharmaceutical quality control, environmental monitoring and forensics, and EACH trains a small international cohort across four universities: Tartu in Estonia, Uppsala in Sweden, Claude Bernard Lyon 1 in France and Åbo Akademi in Finland. For a chemistry graduate from Afghanistan, Pakistan, China or anywhere else, the Erasmus Mundus scholarship attached to this programme is a complete funding package — and the scholarship round for the 2027 intake is open now.

What it covers

The Erasmus Mundus scholarship for EACH covers participation costs of €18,000 for the two-year programme and pays a monthly allowance of €1,400 for up to 24 months. That monthly allowance comfortably covers accommodation and living costs in Tartu, Uppsala, Lyon or Turku, where the study tracks take place. Scholars also travel between the consortium countries as part of the mobility scheme, so the award effectively funds a four-country European education rather than a single-campus degree. Fee-based places are also available for applicants who miss the scholarship but still want the programme.

Who can apply

You need a bachelor's degree with at least 60 ECTS of chemistry and at least 20 ECTS of mathematics or physics, with a grade average of at least 66 percent, plus evidence of English proficiency. Applicants from systems that do not use ECTS should map their coursework and credit hours carefully — the admissions team does this routinely for applicants from South Asia and elsewhere, but your transcript must clearly show the chemistry and mathematics content. Self-check before applying: does my transcript show the required chemistry and maths volume, is my average at or above 66 percent, do I have an acceptable English test, and can I secure referees who know my laboratory work in detail?

Deadline and key dates

Admission period 1 runs from 5 November 2026 to 5 January 2027, and only applications submitted in this period are considered for the Erasmus Mundus scholarship. Admission period 2 runs from 1 February to 15 February 2027, but places taken in that window are fee-based and not funded. Scholarship results are announced on 9 April 2027. If funding matters to you — and it almost always does — the January deadline is the only one that counts.

How to apply

Applications are submitted online through the EACH admission pages at https://each.ut.ee/EACH?p=24, and the detailed scholarship and fee information is published at https://each.ut.ee/EACH/tuition-fees-scholarships/. The form asks for your academic transcripts, the ECTS or equivalent course mapping, English test results, and references, so begin assembling documents in November. Referees in Afghanistan and Pakistan often need explicit reminders around the December holidays — the deadline falls immediately after them, which is exactly when communication is slowest.

Tips to win and mistakes to avoid

Strong applications foreground laboratory experience: instrument work, method validation, quality control, or research projects with measurable results. Because analytical chemistry is an applied discipline, a concrete account of what you did in the lab beats abstract enthusiasm about 'science'. The most common mistakes are applying in the second window believing it is still funded, under-documenting the maths and physics components of a chemistry degree, and leaving the English test until the final weeks. Map your ECTS early, apply before the December holidays, and write a motivation statement that ties analytical chemistry to a real sector — food safety, pharmaceuticals, environmental protection — where you can name the problem you want to work on.

It helps to know where graduates of a programme like this actually end up. Analytical chemistry is a hiring discipline: national food-safety and standards laboratories, pharmaceutical manufacturers and contract laboratories, environmental protection agencies, forensic services and mineral or petrochemical testing companies all recruit method-development chemists. For applicants from Afghanistan and Pakistan, the domestic relevance is immediate — food and drug regulatory laboratories, water-quality monitoring and export testing all depend on exactly the validation and quality-assurance skills EACH teaches, and a European master's with two laboratories' worth of instrument experience is a strong credential for both home institutions and international employers.

Before you open the application, collect the pieces that take the longest to produce: certified or English transcripts showing all chemistry, mathematics and physics coursework with hours or credits, your English test report, a curriculum vitae structured around laboratory and research experience, and a draft motivation statement. Two academic referees who can describe your laboratory work specifically are worth more than senior referees who can only vouch for your character. Because the 5 January deadline falls immediately after the December holidays, ask your referees before the second week of December and give them the programme's own description of what a strong reference covers.
