GLODEP is an Erasmus Mundus joint master's in international development studies taught across the Czech Republic, France and Germany, with its funded first admission call open from 5 November 2026 to 31 January 2027.

GLODEP — the joint master's in Global Development Policy — is an Erasmus Mundus programme that moves a small cohort through three European universities: Palacký University Olomouc in the Czech Republic, Université Clermont Auvergne in France, and the University of Bayreuth in Germany. The programme trains economists and policy analysts to work on development — poverty, trade, migration, institutions and sustainability — which makes it a natural fit for applicants from Afghanistan, Pakistan and other countries where development policy is a daily reality rather than an abstraction. The funded first admission call for the 2027-2029 intake runs from 5 November 2026 to 31 January 2027.

What it covers

A GLODEP scholarship in the first call covers the programme's tuition fees — €4,200 per year — and pays a monthly allowance of €1,400, plus health insurance. The allowance reflects Western European living standards, which matters because the mobility track takes students from the cheaper Czech city of Olomouc to Clermont-Ferrand in France and Bayreuth in Germany. Graduates leave with a multi-country degree recognised across the European Higher Education Area and a dissertation that normally engages with a real development problem, often connected to their home region.

Who can apply

The entry profile is specific: a bachelor's degree with at least 60 ECTS of economics, a grade average equivalent to at least 2.7 on the Czech four-point scale (or 2.5 on the German scale, or 13 out of 20 on the French scale), and English at C1 level — IELTS 7.0 or TOEFL 95 as stated benchmarks. The economics requirement is the one that screens most applicants out: general business or management degrees without rigorous economics coursework do not qualify, while economics, econometrics-heavy finance and development studies degrees usually do. Self-check: does my transcript contain at least one full year of economics content, is my GPA at the stated equivalent, do I hold an IELTS 7.0 or TOEFL 95, and can I articulate a development policy question I genuinely want to research?

Deadline and key dates

The first call, which is the only route to the Erasmus Mundus and GLODEP scholarships, runs from 5 November 2026 to 31 January 2027. A second call runs from 1 February to 15 March 2027, but places admitted in that round are self-funded only. If you need funding, treat 31 January 2027 as your absolute deadline and ignore the second call.

How to apply

Applications are submitted through the GLODEP admission pages at https://glodep.eu/?p=374, with the scholarship and fee conditions detailed at https://glodep.eu/fees-and-funding/. The application requires your transcripts with the credit content visible, the GPA converted or explained, English test evidence, and the programme's own motivation and reference materials. Because the GPA equivalences span three national scales, include a short note in your application explaining your home grading system — committees read hundreds of transcripts and a clear explanation of what an 80 percent at your university actually means is worth real points.

Tips to win and mistakes to avoid

Winning applications show quantitative strength: courses in microeconomics, macroeconomics, statistics and econometrics, plus any empirical work you have done. A motivation letter that ties a specific development question — trade integration, labour markets, post-conflict reconstruction, rural finance — to your own country experience stands out far more than general praise for the programme. The most common mistakes are applying with thin economics content, missing the C1 English threshold by a small margin, and waiting for the second call not realising it is unfunded. Prepare your referees in December, translate and explain your grading scale, and submit before mid-January.

The programme's shape rewards applicants who think in terms of evidence. Development economics is an empirical field, and the consortium's teaching leans on econometrics, impact evaluation and policy analysis rather than essay-based development theory. Applicants who can show hands-on data work — an analysis of household survey data, an evaluation component in an NGO project, even a strong final-year econometrics paper — should make that the centrepiece of their application. For candidates from Afghanistan, credible dissertation directions include labour-market outcomes, remittances and financial inclusion, agricultural value chains, or the economics of reconstruction; for Pakistani applicants, trade, energy pricing, rural credit and public-service delivery offer the same concrete hooks.

Assemble the application file in this order: degree certificates and full transcripts with credit content visible, an explanation of your home grading scale mapped to the stated GPA equivalents, your IELTS or TOEFL report at the C1 threshold, a curriculum vitae that foregrounds quantitative skills, and your motivation materials. The GPA conversion is the part applicants get wrong most often — a statement that your 3.2 on a four-point scale sits at the second-class division of your university's system, with the institution's own conversion certificate attached, removes the ambiguity the committee would otherwise have to resolve against you.
