Fully funded Master scholarship for International students 2027

Eighteen full scholarships a year for talented non-EU/EEA students admitted to a participating master's programme at Maastricht University. The package covers tuition, a monthly living allowance, insurance and visa costs for the whole degree.

Eligibility

  • Nationality outside the EU/EEA, Switzerland and Suriname, with no dual EU/EEA or Swiss nationality
  • Complete admission file for a participating Maastricht University master's programme by 10 December 2026
  • Never previously enrolled in a degree-seeking programme in the Netherlands (exchange is fine)
  • No older than 35 on 1 September 2027
  • Latest transcript showing a GPA of at least 7.5 out of 10, or about 75% / 3.0 out of 4
  • Agree to act as a UM NL High Potential ambassador during and after study

The UM NL-High Potential Scholarship is a full package for eighteen master's students from outside the EU each year. It combines the High Potential Scholarship funded by the Maastricht University Scholarship Fund with the NL Scholarship financed by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. It covers tuition fees at cost, a living allowance of EUR 20,150 for a 13-month master's or EUR 38,750 for a 25-month master's, paid at about EUR 1,550 per month, health and liability insurance of EUR 700, Dutch visa application costs, the pre-academic training and the first block of the International Student Ambassador Programme. A room is allocated as a mandatory part of the scholarship, and airfare is not covered. Roughly 2 per cent of applicants are awarded.

You must hold a nationality outside the EU/EEA, Switzerland and Suriname, with no dual EU/EEA or Swiss nationality, and meet the requirements for a Dutch entry visa and residence permit. You must apply for a participating full-time master's programme at Maastricht University for 2027-2028 and submit a complete admission file meeting all admission requirements before 10 December 2026. You must never have participated in a degree-seeking higher education programme in the Netherlands, though exchange students are welcome. You must be no older than 35 on 1 September 2027 and your latest transcript must show a GPA of at least 7.5 out of 10, equivalent to about 75 per cent or 3.0 out of 4.

Applications for the scholarship are open from 1 October 2026 until 1 February 2027 at 23:59 CET. Two clocks matter: complete your Maastricht University master's admission file, including any handling fee, by 10 December 2026, and then submit the separate scholarship form before 1 February 2027. Apply for the master's programme first through Studielink to receive your UM student number, which you need to open the scholarship form. You may submit only one application and only for one UM scholarship, and documents cannot be added or replaced afterwards. Selected applicants are interviewed in March 2027 and outcomes are communicated in April to early May 2027.

The 10 December 2026 admission file deadline is the one that quietly disqualifies people. Work backwards from that date, not from February.
