GLOBE Erasmus Mundus Scholarship 2027-2029 — Fully Funded Master's in Spain
Fully funded Master scholarship in Spain for International students 2027
A four-country Erasmus Mundus master that starts in Madrid and pays EUR 1,400 a month for the full two years. Applications for the 2027-2029 edition close on 4 January 2027.
Eligibility
- Hold a bachelor's degree worth at least 180 ECTS in biology, agriculture, environmental sciences, forestry, earth or environmental geography, natural resources, or an equivalent field
- Show English at B2 level on the CEFR scale by the Stage 1 deadline
- Be a national of any country — the scholarship is open worldwide
- Not have held an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master scholarship before
- Be able to study in Spain, the United Kingdom and Portugal across the two years
Erasmus Mundus degrees rarely let you pick four countries on one transcript. GLOBE does: Madrid for the first semester at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, Bangor in Wales for the second, Lisbon for the third, and a thesis semester at whichever partner will supervise your project. The subject is global change ecology and biodiversity management, the 2027-2029 intake is capped at 25 students, and the funding is the standard Erasmus Mundus package — participation costs covered and EUR 1,400 a month for the full 24 months.
The window opened on 28 September 2026 and closes on 4 January 2027. That is about eleven weeks, and the English certificate has to exist by the closing date rather than be booked for later. If you are reading this in October, you are early, which is exactly where you want to be.
WHAT THE SCHOLARSHIP COVERS
Two figures carry the whole offer. The monthly allowance is EUR 1,400 for up to 24 months, so EUR 33,600 across the degree, and it is meant to absorb rent, food, travel between campuses, visa costs and the deposit on a room. Participation costs are covered on top of that for scholarship holders, which means the tuition line does not come out of the stipend. The consortium is also clear that the award pays for mobility rather than rewarding it: three physical moves are part of the programme, not an optional extra.
The part applicants misread is that the scholarship is competitive and separate from admission. GLOBE admits a cohort first and then distributes Erasmus Mundus awards to a subset of it. If you are admitted without one you become a self-funded student, and the published participation costs for that route are EUR 4,500 a year for programme-country students and EUR 9,000 a year for non-associated third countries. Plan for that possibility honestly: a strong application is one that survives the answer going either way.
WHO CAN APPLY — AND THE SELF-CHECK THAT MATTERS
GLOBE is a science master and the consortium names the first degrees it will read: biology, agriculture or environmental sciences, forestry, earth and environmental geography, natural resources, or an equivalent degree carrying at least 180 ECTS. Academic excellence is assessed alongside your CV, your motivation and your references, so a good grade average in an unrelated field will not carry you.
Run these five questions before you open the form:
Does your transcript actually total 180 ECTS, or the national equivalent the consortium accepts? A three-year degree from most Afghan, Pakistani and Chinese universities clears this, but a two-year associate or diploma route does not.
Is your degree on the named list, or genuinely adjacent? Environmental engineering, ecology, conservation biology and natural resource management read as adjacent. Business, law or computer science do not, however strong the grades.
Can you evidence B2 English before 4 January 2027? Test slots in Kabul, Islamabad and Lahore fill weeks ahead, so this is a scheduling problem before it is an academic one.
Can you move country three times in two years, including a UK semester that needs its own visa?
Can you record a one to two minute video explaining your motivation? It is part of the Stage 1 form, not an optional extra.
THE DEADLINE
Stage 1 runs from 28 September 2026 to 4 January 2027 and is the point at which your file, your video and your two referees' contact details must be in. Stage 2, the supporting documents for shortlisted applicants, runs through January and February 2027. The English requirement attaches to Stage 1, not Stage 2, which catches people who assume the language certificate can follow a shortlist.
Treat 4 January as a real wall. Erasmus Mundus portals across Europe take their heaviest traffic in the final 72 hours, and a form that fails to submit on 3 January is not a problem the consortium can fix for you.
HOW TO APPLY, AND WHAT TO HAVE READY
Everything goes through the GLOBE application platform:
https://globe-master.eu/apply/
Have these files ready before you start, because the form is easier to finish in one sitting:
Bachelor's degree certificate and full transcripts, in the original language plus an English translation if the original is not in English.
A curriculum vitae that makes your field experience legible — fieldwork, lab time, NGO work, a thesis on conservation or land use.
Proof of English at B2: an accepted test result, or the exemption the consortium grants for applicants whose degree was taught in English.
Passport or national ID page, for nationality verification.
A one to two minute motivation video, recorded on a phone is fine, with audible sound.
Contact details for two referees who have agreed in advance to be contacted if you reach the next stage.
WHERE THIS SITS AMONG YOUR OTHER OPTIONS
If you want a second Erasmus Mundus application in the same cycle, EMABG in Austria covers animal breeding and genetics with a similar funding model and a similar January close:

If your interest is humanitarian rather than ecological, the NOHA master's is the closer match:

And if you would rather be in a single city for two years, Geneva's excellence fellowship is the quieter alternative:

COMMON MISTAKES TO AVOID
Assuming admission brings the scholarship. It does not; the two decisions are made separately, and a self-funded offer is still an offer.
Skipping the video because it feels informal. It is a scored part of Stage 1 and a silent one to lose marks on.
Naming referees who have not been asked. GLOBE contacts them only if you advance, but a referee who ignores the email ends your application quietly.
Applying to the consortium as a way into ecology without an ecology-adjacent degree. The degree list is a filter, not a suggestion.
Reading the deadline as 4 January in your local time. The platform runs on the consortium's clock, so submit at least three days early.
Not sure whether your file is competitive? Take it to an OEAC advisor before you submit — a second reader on the transcript and the motivation letter is usually what separates a shortlisted application from a complete one.
