Fully funded Master scholarship for International students 2027

Study global markets across three of seven partner universities on a fully funded Erasmus Mundus master's. Scholarship applications close 14 January 2027.

Eligibility

  • UK 2:1 honours degree or the country-specific international equivalent
  • Relevant degree in business, economics, history, social sciences or humanities
  • Three tracks require 60 ECTS or a quarter of prior study in specified subjects
  • IELTS Academic 6.5 with 6.0 in each component, or an accepted alternative
  • No more than six scholarships per nationality across four editions

GLOCAL — Global Markets, Local Creativities — is a two-year Erasmus Mundus master's coordinated by the University of Glasgow that treats the global economy as something that happens in particular places. Instead of one campus, you rotate through three universities on one of eight published study tracks, and the track you choose decides both your destinations and whether your degree is joint, double or multiple. Applications for the September 2027 intake are open, and the scholarship round closes on 14 January 2027.

What it covers

A GLOCAL scholarship covers tuition in full, including the deposit, plus insurance. On top of that you choose one of two payment structures, and the choice is a cash-flow decision rather than a value decision. Option one pays EUR 1,400 a month for the two years. Option two pays three advances of EUR 1,000 — before year one, at the end of year one, and at the start of year two — and then EUR 1,275 a month. Both structures come to the same total, because the advances are drawn from the award rather than added to it. If you need money up front for a visa, a deposit and a flight, the second option exists for exactly that reason.

The consortium is unusually wide for a joint master's: Glasgow, Barcelona, Uppsala, Erasmus University Rotterdam, Kyoto, Los Andes in Bogotá and Göttingen. Tracks run through three of those in sequence, for example Glasgow then Barcelona then Rotterdam for global history and creative industries, or Glasgow then Barcelona then Kyoto for industrial dynamics. One track, H, is not recruiting for the 2027 intake, which is worth checking before you fall in love with an itinerary.

There is a nationality cap, and it is published. No more than six scholarships per nationality will be awarded across the four editions of the project, which is 10 per cent of the sixty regular awards. A separate pool of up to twenty targeted scholarships is not subject to that cap. For applicants from large applicant pools this is a real constraint and not a formality.

Who can apply

The academic threshold is a UK 2:1 honours degree or its international equivalent, with country-specific grade requirements set by Glasgow. Accepted backgrounds are broad — business, economics, history, international relations, political science, sociology, anthropology, psychology, philosophy, literature, sustainability and related fields — but three tracks require at least a quarter of your previous studies, or 60 ECTS, in economics, business, modern history, social or economic history, sociology or politics. Check your transcript against the track before you commit, because the consortium will not pre-assess your fit by email.

English is IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with 6.0 in each component, or an accepted alternative, with Duolingo at 120 and Cambridge C1 or C2 at 176 among the options. Scholarship applicants must have acceptable English evidence in the file by the deadline. One exception worth noting: an English-medium certificate on its own does not establish eligibility for a waiver.

Run this self-check. Does my degree meet the UK 2:1 equivalent for my country, and can I find that equivalence published? Have I picked one track, and does my transcript satisfy its subject requirement? Do I have English evidence that will be valid on 14 January 2027? Can I obtain two references on institutional headed paper, signed and dated within the last 24 months? Have I avoided holding an Erasmus Mundus scholarship before, since a second one is not permitted? And can I live in three countries in two years? Six yeses means you are ready to write.

The deadline

Scholarship applications for all tracks close on 14 January 2027 at 13:00 UK time. Self-funded deadlines are later and vary by track, so a missed scholarship deadline does not necessarily end your application — but it does remove you from funding. Results for scholarship applicants are announced in April 2027.

How to apply

You apply through the University of Glasgow's online application system, not by email, and you must already hold, or be given, a conditional or unconditional offer of admission before a scholarship can be considered. The file is the scholarship application form with a supporting personal statement of no more than 1,200 words, a CV, two references on headed paper, transcripts and degree certificates in the original language plus certified English translations where needed, English evidence and a colour scan of your passport photo page.

One procedural trap is worth repeating: if your offer status is still "holding for documents" at the scholarship deadline, you will not be considered for funding. The documents, not the form, are what the deadline is really about.

Tips to win

The published selection criteria weight the personal statement at 40 per cent, academic merit at 30, references at 10 and other relevant experience at 20. That is an unusual weighting for a European master's, and it means the statement is where the scholarship is won. Write it around one question that connects your past to a track: how a local industry, a migration pattern or an institution you know has been reshaped by global markets, and what you would want to study about it.

Name the three cities and say what each one gives you. A statement that could be submitted to any track in any year is the most common reason a strong transcript does not convert.

Common mistakes

Applying to track H, which is not recruiting. Choosing a track on destinations and failing its 60 ECTS subject requirement. Sending references by personal email, which are not accepted. Treating the advance payments as extra money and over-committing on housing. And submitting after the English evidence deadline while assuming a waiver will apply.

If you want a second reader for the personal statement, or help checking your transcript against a track's subject requirement, an OEAC advisor can do that before the January deadline.
