Fully funded Master scholarship for All international students students 2026

Three-country Erasmus Mundus master's in aeronautical engineering for decarbonised aviation, taught in France, Belgium and Germany with EUR 1,400 a month and fees covered. The 2027 call closes on 1 December 2026.

Eligibility

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics or a related technical field
  • Strong background in fluid mechanics, materials or thermodynamics
  • English proficiency at the level set by the consortium
  • No previous Erasmus Mundus joint master's scholarship
  • Awareness that self-funded places carry EUR 9,000 a year in participation costs for partner-country students
  • Only about 20 students admitted per cohort

Aviation's decarbonisation problem is an engineering problem with a deadline attached: hydrogen combustion, sustainable fuels, lightweight composites and radically more efficient propulsion all need people who understand heat transfer, materials behaviour and structural integrity at the same time. TFMASA is the Erasmus Mundus master built for that combination, taught in three countries in three languages of instruction, and its 2027-2029 call has been open since 1 September 2026.

What it covers

A scholarship pays EUR 1,400 a month as a living allowance and contributes EUR 4,500 a year towards participation costs, which is the mandatory contribution to tuition and insurance at the partner universities. For partner-country students, the full participation cost is EUR 9,000 a year, or EUR 18,000 across the two years, so the scholarship contribution covers half of the fee and the monthly allowance has to carry accommodation, travel and daily costs. The consortium states plainly that the allowance is intended to cover those living expenses, and that at the point of application there is no guarantee of a scholarship.

The structure is a joint diploma rather than an exchange. Semester one is at the University of Bordeaux in France, semester two at UCLouvain in Belgium, semester three at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg in Germany, and semester four is a master's thesis, often with an industrial partner. Graduates receive a joint master's and the national degrees of the institutions they attended, and the consortium caps each cohort at about 20 students.

Who can apply

You need a bachelor's degree in engineering, physics or a closely related technical field, with enough fluid mechanics, thermodynamics and materials science to follow the first semester. Scholarships are open to applicants from all over the world, and the usual Erasmus Mundus exclusions apply: a previous joint master's scholarship disqualifies you, and no more than 10 per cent of the scholarships awarded across the programme may go to one nationality.

Ask yourself these questions before you start. Does my degree contain real coursework in fluid mechanics or materials, or only introductory modules? Can I follow technical teaching in English at master's level and evidence it? Am I ready to move country twice in eighteen months? Do I understand that if I am admitted without a scholarship I would owe EUR 9,000 a year? And do I have a specific interest within sustainable aeronautics, rather than a general wish to work in aviation?

The deadline

The 2027-2029 campaign opened on 1 September 2026 at 08:00 CEST and closes on 1 December 2026 at 10:00 CET. That is early by Erasmus Mundus standards: most consortia run into January or February, so applicants who treat this as a January deadline lose the round entirely. Shortlisted candidates are interviewed in mid-February 2027 and final results are published in March. Applications by email or on paper are rejected automatically, and late submissions are not considered at all.

How to apply

Applications go through the consortium's online platform, which opens a form that asks for personal details, academic history and the documents that support them. Prepare your transcripts, degree certificate or proof of enrolment, English proficiency evidence, a CV, a motivation statement and the referee details the platform requests before you begin. The consortium runs a single campaign for scholarship and self-funded candidates, so the same form decides both, and shortlisted applicants who are not awarded a scholarship are asked during the interview stage whether they wish to be considered as self-funded.

Read the self-funded conditions before you apply, not after. They set out the participation costs, the fact that no living or travel support is provided, and the requirement to prove adequate financial resources for a visa. Knowing this in September is planning; discovering it in March is a wasted year.

Tips to win

Write about a technical problem you want to solve, and connect it to one of the three campuses. TFMASA's mobility is fixed, so the strongest letters explain why the sequence matters: materials and processes in Bordeaux, computational methods in Louvain-la-Neuve, thermal and fluid work in Cottbus. If you have a final-year project on composites, combustion or aeroacoustics, put it in the first paragraph with a number in it.

Use the industrial network as evidence of intention. The consortium names DLR, Safran, Rolls-Royce and Aerospace Valley among its partners, and a letter that describes the kind of test campaign or design office you want to join reads as a career plan rather than a request for funding.

Common mistakes

Missing the 1 December cut-off because other Erasmus Mundus deadlines fall in January. Assuming the scholarship covers the full EUR 18,000 fee when the contribution is EUR 4,500 a year. Applying without an English certificate because the requirement is not printed as a number. Writing a statement that could be sent to any aerospace master's in Europe. And forgetting that a previous Erasmus Mundus award, at master's or doctoral level, ends your eligibility. An OEAC advisor can review your statement and your document set against this programme's own checklist before you submit. If you are deciding between two offers, ask the advisory team to compare them for you.
